It is possible that you have only scratched through the fingerprint-resistant, oil repellent coating. It is normal for this coating to wear away under normal use, but it may may have become scratched without damaging the sapphire crystal beneath.

Apple does not recommend using cleaning products or polishing or buffing the watch with abrasives; these will not only wear away the coating, but may also scratch the glass / sapphire crystal.

Cosmetic damage - which includes scratches - is not covered under the One Year Limited Warranty (or AppleCare+), but Apple can inspect the mark and your watch may be eligible for out-of-warranty repair service. Prices vary by country, including:

- In the US: $329.00 + shipping (if applicable) + tax.

- In the UK: £266.44 (including shipping & VAT).

Contact Apple Support via https://www.apple.com/support/watch/contact/ or make a Genius Bar reservation at your nearest Apple Retail Store:

Otherwise, a good quality screen protector (film-type) may be effective in obscuring or reducing the visibility of the mark, as well as in providing some measure of protection against future damage.

While Jonathan can't recommend it, you can use 70% isopropyl alcohol and a clean micro fiber cloth to remove the 'scratch'. Be aware this does permanently remove the oleophobic coating. However as stated the coating wears off over time anyway. I have always removed the coating from my iPhones and iPads because I don't like the look. However I have keep it on my Watch so far and may let it stay on my iPhone 6S just to see.
