Q: Photos application
In 2014 purchased a new Mt. Lion (10.8 MaBook Air, which included iPhotos) then, upgraded without issue to a Yosemite 10.5 including latest Photos application. Now both apps are in machine and when I select a photo to go to Photos it goes to iPhoto too, goes to both apps.
Is this taking up TWICE THE SPACE as having one of these photo storage apps.?
Should I delete iPhotos (as all of it's contents is now in Photos and I can't see a use for keeping it)?
Or should I keep it for some reason? If delete good idea, how to delete an application, iPhotos specifically-
fearful that it might delete all of the photos in the new upgraded Photos app?!
I heard that Photos should not actually be running on the Yosemite upgrade, actually?! Is this true?

No. Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support and How Photos handles content and metadata from iPhoto and Aperture.
Until Photos becomes more mature you would be wise to hang on to both iPhoto and your iPhoto Library file. If you are that tight on storage space consider using an external drive for more storage space.
