Mid 2007 MacBook with Lion will not boot, tried all the standard things

BIg appeal for help: just replaced my 2007 MacBook with a MacBook Pro and now the 2007 will not boot! Will not boot in safe mode (bar gets to 40% then reboots and then goes to grey screen of death), reset the PRAM, tried to boot into recovery mode and get spinning wheels of death, tried to boot time machine plugged in and get spinning wheel of death, cannot run disk utility only get the spinning wheel of death. Tried resetting system management controller
