It seems that App Store has automatically updated your version of Numbers to Numbers 3. Numbers 3 will not open Numbers '08 documents. Use Numbers '08 (likely it has been silently moved to an iWork '08 subfolder within your Applications Folder).
Wayne Contello has written a User Tip for working with the old and new versions of iWork.
Need newer version of Numbers to open file
Please call back with questions.
Regards,
Ian.

Oct 15, 2015 10:36 AM in response to Yellowboxby lucafrombrooklyn,Hello. I actually AM using the latest version of Numbers (3.5.3) and there is no other version available. However, I still cannot open some of my (shared) files as I get the message "You need a newer version of Numbers to open this spreadsheet."
Any suggestion?
Thanks
