Q: automatically detect and maintain account settings
I'm having problem with sending mail via SMTP where the error is username and password does not match. My host wants me to try to uncheck "Automatically detect and maintain account settings" that I access through Mail > Preferences > Accounts, but that checkbox is greyed out and cannot be changed. How can I enable this checkbox?
Thanks!

I'm using Zoho.
Is Zoho your IMAP account? If it's set as POP I highly suggest you setup as IMAP.
http://www.zoho.com/mail/help/apple-mac-imap.html
If you delete all the places Mail stores your data in your User's folder, this should allow you to setup the account like you were able to in the new User's account.
With Mail quit....
System Preferences > Internet Accounts
Remove all email accounts
Mail stores data in your User's Library.
Containers > com.apple.mail
Mail folder > rename to MailXXX so Mail creates a new Mail folder.
Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist & MobileMeAccounts.plist
For good measure also remove in the User's Library > Saved Application State > com.apple.mail.savedState (this is actually an alias to the data in Containers)
This time restart your Mac.
Open Mail. Does it open in a new blank profile? If there are any accounts etc in Mail, let us know. This means we missed something.
