Q: iTunes 12 Not Displaying Now Playing Song

When I play a song, it isn't displayed in the box where it always has been. Using the Minelayer is annoying when I'm doing other things...How can I fix this? I want the track information and progress bar back, and I'm not upgrading to 12.2. I see a lot of posts about people losing their libraries.

For the sake of feedback, this update is garbage

    Hi there Shoone,

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

If I understand correctly, the iTunes Now Playing window isn't updating or being displayed correctly on your MacBook Pro. If you haven't already, take a look at the article linked below and try testing iTunes without any third-party add-ons or plug-ins.

    Cheers.

I had this same issue on a 5K iMac. -- never installed any plug-ins.  I'm on 12.2.2.25  -- no current song...no ability to scrub the current song or see any playback stats or even song name. Just the big 'ol Apple in the grey box.  I tried launching in "safe mode" and still no help.   Then I just started punching Function keys   F1, F2 , F3,  (most of them have defined functions for brightness etc.  By the time I got to F6 -- the display showed up!

Now it seems perfectly fine.   I don't see where I can toggle it off/on  -- relaunching iTunes and it's still fine.   Go figure. No clue what "really fixed it" but might I suggest you start pressing function keys - lol   -- can't hurt.
