You may also be able to download the last compatible version of some other apps.

Visit this link for info on downloading older apps if you're running an older iOS version.

Install the latest compatible version of an app on an earlier version of iOS or OS X - Apple Support

Basically, the app developer has to support this so it may, or may not work. It's entirely dependent on the specific app you're looking to run.
