iMac fans running full power

The fans run at full power soon after my iMac is turned on and even running only Firefox. (I have a 2.8GHz Intel core 2 Duo 4GB 800MHz iMac.) I have reset PRAM/NVRAM but it makes no difference either. I have also reset the SMC. Any idea how I can fix this?

iMac (24-inch Early 2008), Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Reset the SMC 2-3 times back to back using the instructions in Intel iMac SMC and PRAM resets

If the issue is not resolved, then post an EtreCheck report of your system and we can look for obvious issues.
