Q: Will the apple pencil work on ipad air 2

I purchased an ipad air 2 for drawing but found that there are hardly any pressure sensitive stylus that work with it. Does anyone have any idea if the new apple pencil for the ipad pro will work for ipad air 2?

I have been waiting for bigger iPads since the orginal came out, not smaller ones like the iPad Mini.

Count me in as another iPad Pro purchaser when they come out!

I biting the proverbial financial bullet and I am going to purchase the 128 GB version.

I have nearly filled my 64 GB iPad 3 and really use my iPad as both a creative drawing, painting and music tool as well as like a normal laptop/MacBook.

I store a LOT of photos and images on my iPad, too!

I already own an Adonit Jot Touch w/pixelpoint, so I am hoping NOT to have to spend any more additional money on a Apple pencil.

I love doing drawing, painting and sketching on my iPad, but always found the screen size limiting.

Too much like working on a piece of paper that is a lot less than an 8-1/2x11 sheet of paper.

I'll have a larger canvas, now, to draw on.

With the 4 speaker sound system, maybe  I can put some of my music back on my iPad as I removed all of my movies and music from my iPad 3 so I'd have more storage room for saving drawings and paintings and doing music and video work on my iPad.

I moved all of my music to my new 64 GB iPod Touch so, it is a LOT more mobile and convenient to carry my music and listen over a portable Bluetooth speaker system anywhere!

I put all of my movies onto a portable wireless WiFi Seagate hard drive, so I can access this drive from any mobile device and watch movies from my mobile devices OR plug my device, via Apple HDMI adapters, into my large flat screen TV and watch them streamed from those devices OR through Home Sharing from my Mac.

Check to see if Adonit's stylus offerings currently work with the iPad Air 2,

You can email them from their website.

Their Jot Touch w/pixelpoint and Jot Script are very high quality styluses.

Or look at their Jot Dash stylus.

Sounds like you've got it all worked out, MichelPM. I agree the iPad Pro will be so much better for creative work.

I'd really like to know you're chosen method and app/s for streaming movies from the wifi drive to your devices. I am about start sifting through the App Store to find something for viewing media and other files stored on a wifi hard drive. Do you have anything worth sharing?

Sorry for going of topic, all.

It appears Apple hit a home run with the iPad Pro. Two drawbacks I've seen are it will be released in only twp memory sizes and and another Forum contributor mentiond you can only get cellular wih the 128GB model.

Used to its full potential, I think this beast may come up short with only 128gb. After all, for some, its a laptop replacement. Bring on 256, 500...

Unfortunately for my needs I can't justify $949.00 for the 128 GB model. You can b real sure when the iPad Pro comes out I'll try.

Until unless its explicitly mentioned that Apple Pencil works with iPad Air 2, its better not to go for it. If you can wait until you get hold of one and see how well it works, its better. If you need one now, go for Adonit. I have seen hundreds of users, including me, who does a profound research on all styluses for months only to find Adonit beats them all.

I am not in creative field but I do want to use my iPad Mini to its fullest, and a stylus is a real deal for taking notes, brain storming, mind mapping, simple drawings, etc. Best in descending order of my experience:

    Jot Touch - $100

    Adobe Ink & Slide - $70

    Jot Dash   - $50

    Jot Script 2 - $75

    (Don't go for lower range)

Any stylus with a rubber tip is better to be avoided.

I Think technology is in the pencil, not in the displayimage.png

    That is incorrect.

If you watch the Keynote presentation and fast forward to the iPad Pro introduction, there is brand new screen technology that supports 4K video, plus the physical screen technology contains an new, additional layer that is NOT present in any current iPad lineup.

The technology in the Apple Pencil has been designed to work seamlessly with this new, more advanced screen technology.

If Apple had something new in the display of the iPad Pro it will be on the description

MichelPM is correct. The iPad Pro will be out soon. If you don't want to believe buy a Pencil when they come out.

No need to be so snooty. Maybe she wasn't available to watch the event.

They do - https://www.apple.com/ipad-pro/design/   Apparently nobody actually reads the new product information that Apple actually does make available.

A new Multi‑Touch subsystem in iPad Pro enables the striking capabilities and pixel‑perfect precision of Apple Pencil.

Ok it's therefore certain that the awesome precision of the apple pen will work ONLY with the iPad Pro. I think we ill have to wait to see if it work ALSO on other ipad, with less precision but maybe a concurrence like precision. ( similar to wacom or adonis's styluses )
