Q: i Tunes Match limit being increased to 100,000

Is the i tunes match limit actually being increased from 25,000 to 100,000 in IOS 9 as rumoured when IOS 8.4 was released. There is no mention of this anywhere on Apple's website or on any Apple forums apart from the rumours that it would happen in IOS 9 when released.

iPhone 6, iOS 8.4.1

I had this same question and was speaking to an Apple Rep. about 3 weeks ago that confirmed the limit is increasing to 100,000.  I was hoping it happened yesterday...but I haven't tried yet.  I'm still hovering at 24,970 in my library with the other 32,000 I have in Amazon.  LOL

    Have you tried yet?

I have never signed up to match as my library has always been way in excess of their 25000 limit and I have been waiting for the limit to increase. Just hoping that all the rumours I am hearing about the increase are true.

Nope, just updated and I still can't add  anything from Apple Music. Pretty depressed, as otherwise I love iTunes Match and Apple Music, but it looks like I won't be subscribing to either.

Same problem here.  When is the cap going to be raised?

Yes, I expected with the brand new iTunes 12.3 it was going to be sorted out, but that's not the case... Shame, as a good iTunes library is perfect complement to Apple Music... and 25k songs is much too limited.

Eagerly awaiting it here, too. I dragged a big chunk of files from my main library onto my 25K pruned library and got the Limit Exceeded error. Oddly, it still says Limit Exceeded at 24,993 total songs, while I know that hundreds of them are iTunes purchased or iTunes Music files. What a pain. I'm ready for this nightmare to be over and go back to having iTunes "just work".

I read somewhere that Apple was considering increasing the song limit to 100,000 as part of a combined Apple Music/iMatch combo whereby everyone that has signed up for Apple Music basically gets iMatch also for no extra fee.  THis being part of the iOS 9.0 rollout. Does anyone have Apple Music and more than 25K songs in iMatch to validate if this has launched?

I'm quite certain the iTunes Match song limit will be increased to 100,000 sometime before the end of the year. The misnomer was that it would take place with the release of iOS 9.0. In actuality, the increase to 100,000 tracks doesn't directly to the iOS software. Rather, an update to the iTunes software via your computer will be the likely trigger. I see no other means of informing Apple users of such. Also, iTunes Match may have similarities to Apple Music but has some major differences involving digital rights management among other things. This article will elaborate for you. Good luck and hopefully the iTunes Match song limit will be increased before year end.

It seems there is a shift in how people are using large music libraries online, or not?

I have approx 65,000 tracks and it has been, and continues to be, frustrating to stream it everywhere I go.

For awhile I used Subsonic, which is probably the best DIY NAS music server out there and it is free. But, there were some issues not the least of which was me not wanting to leave my computer on 24/7.

I quickly jumped on Amazon Music when it started because of the 250,000 file limit, as opposed to the useless (to me) 25,000 limit of Apple iTunes Match.

Amazon Music works well. There is a cumbersome upload process that had to rescan my entire music library every time I wanted to add tracks. Also, a fair amount of bad tagging, but at a 250,000 limit I was an immediate fan.

I recently complained about how the desktop software is very buggy with Amazon CSR and the only fix is to reinstall the software, something I find hard to swallow (They also gave me a $25 credit for complaining)

Today I was was forced to update my Amazon desktop software (Mac OS) and got notice that the desktop song limit was 40,000 files! I could still access my entire library via ios and browser.

(thread of people complaining about new limits)

A quick survey shows I am not alone in my disappointment, particularly in the lack of warning from Amazon.

Meanwhile I was ecstatic when I read that Apple was upping iTunes Match limit to 100,000 tracks and promptly plopped down my $25 assuming I would stop using Amazon once the Apple limit was in force. A few weeks later after ios 9 and finally El Capitan were installed I called Apple CSR to ask about when the new limits would be in place only to be told that the whole thing was a rumor! I persisted a bit with the CSR and he confirmed that there was no official release from Apple on the 100k limit and they instantly credited me my $25.

I then went back to try and find the source of the "rumour", which was a tweet by Eddy Cue stating via twitter:

"@cue: @karlfranks @robmsimoes 25k for launch and working to get to 100k for iOS 9"

I tweeted and posted everywhere I could think of to see if there was more to it, but it seems there is not?

Is there some technical reason why songs limits of more than say 50,000 is problematic?, or is it that in reality few people really want or need such large access?

It seems with the strong push towards delivery services line Apple Music and Spotify that users are moving away from caring about there own libraries.

Music streaming delivery services don't really work for me for two reasons.

One, why would pay anything a month when I already own the lion share of music I want to listen to and two, a lot of my music is from bootlegs or RIOS which are not available on services like Spotify.

So what gives? Is there a shift here, a ripple in the online music continuum or am I just asking for too much?

Simply put, there is no correct answer. Everything is an experiment in progress because none of these things have been done before. Eventually, the very concept of cloud music libraries will standardize after somebody does it correctly and users can understand the benefits of having one. Right now the benefit to most people is with streaming services, because (a) they get access to more music without (b) having to construct a way to store it all.

If you want all your music in the cloud and you have a library that's too large to be accommodated by one service, then you simply have to use multiple services. I tend to match what I can through Apple and upload the others to Google, because Google features a match override feature that allows me to choose what I upload. This comes in handy with remasters and imports that don't match properly to whatever is in the Apple library.

Do I want Apple to raise the capacity limit to 100K? Sure, because right now their service doesn't accommodate all my needs. But I also need a way to override incorrect matches, and until they implement that, the Apple service is not going to meet all my needs. Thus, Google (or in your case, Amazon).

But to answer your question, yes, users are moving away from the model of having a curated "collection" of albums / songs / tracks, and are more concerned with having access to whatever they want whenever they want.

    Something has DEFINITELY CHANGED!!!!

I just opened up Itunes on my laptop which is NOT my music source, my server at home is.  Match connected and to my surprise I looked at the "Recently Added" tab and low an behold 10 albums i added to my main library this weekend showed up on the laptop!!!!!

I bet it has something to do with the IOS 9.2 upgrade but I think Apple finally upped the limit!!!

CONFIRMED!!!! Just looked at my phone and my Library is 100% up to date with all of the changes I've made since I hit the 25K limit in September!!!

I've been able to add +25K tracks since last Friday, 12/4, but today is a mess. I get that port 443 firewall error that everybody's complaining about and can't load any cloud-stored iTunes on my Macs; only on my iDevices.
