Mac Pro 2010 vs 2012

Hello,

I am a video editor using Avid, Adobe Premiere and Mocha Node and am caught between two Mac Pro's to buy, could anyone give me some advice or insight?

The first is a 2010 Mac pro, quad core 2.8ghz while the second is a 2012 Mac Pro 3.2ghz quad core. Both have 8GB DDR3 Ram (which I'll upgrade for rendering capacity) and the same 1024MB graphics card. Naturally, the 2012 model is more recent, but is double the cost. Is the price worth having a more updated architecture or is the difference so slim its not worth the money?

Thanks!

J

The 2010 and 2012 are effectively identical, the only difference is the speed of the CPU chip they came with. As 'The hatter' says you can buy the 2010 model and upgrade the CPU yourself and probably both save money and end up with a faster Mac than the 2012 is currently.

I have a 2010 and upgraded the CPU myself. See http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_pro/faq/mac-pro-mid-2010-westmere-how- to-upgrade-processors.html
