How do I disable CPU frequency throttling?

I am running Mac OS X 10.4.7 on a 2.0GHz Core Duo MacBook Pro and I would like to know how to disable CPU frequency throttling temporarily while I compile ATLAS (Automatically Tuned Linear Algebra Software). I am warned:

* Please make sure to disable CPU throttling completely * during the compile of blas-atlas. Otherwise, all atlas * generated timings will be completely random and the * performance of the resulting libraries will be degraded * considerably.

I know it used to be an option in the Energy Saver system preference pane, but no Longer.

copy the folder named IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext which is in system folder/library/extentions, and put it on a thumbdrive or other external media. move the enire folder named above to the trash and empty it. Then resart. You can drag the foler back to its location and restart when you want to reactivate speed step.

Out of curiosity would this accomplish the same result?

In the Terminal enter:

sudo pmset -a dps 0

The dps argument is supposed to enable or disable dynamic processor speed change.
