Duplicate iCloud accounts acti in Contacts app

My Contacts app is displaying two iCloud accounts in the lefthand pane. Both accounts point to the same Apple ID (mine). Both sets of groups are identical.

When I check the app’s Accounts settings, I see the following:

Contacts > Accounts… takes me to System Preferences > Internet Accounts. “iCloud" is my only account. It lists the Apple apps that are using iCloud to store and sync data, including Contacts.

When I check the app’s Preferences settings, I see the following:

Contacts > Preferences… > Accounts lists "iCloud CardDAV” (enabled).

I assume these accounts are different entities even though both are iCloud based and use to the same Apple ID. One of them is redundant. Why do two options exist and which one should I disable?

Thank You.

There were no duplicate contacts. Running Check for duplicates found no duplicates. Regardless, Contacts displayed my iCloud account twice in the app’s accounts/groups pane. However, simply turning off Contacts in System Preferences > iCloud, rebooting the computer, and turning Contacts back on, removed the duplicate account.
