how to insert a table within a table in pages

Not exactly a table within a table, but here goes...

Select the cells that you want as a "table" and copy:

Click twice in a cell where you want the "table" and Paste:

There is no support for marsupializing a new table within an existing table cell, without artificial means such as hidden format characters. Pages v5 will not permit the inclusion of document objects within themselves or other objects, unless it is image placement into table cells, or fills into Text boxes, and Shapes.
