changing name when sending a text message on WIFI

My daughter "Mary" had an Iphone4 and switched to an Iphone5 . (Iphone 4 locked to Rogers). When school started , she gave her son "John" the Iphone4 for emergenices and bought a SIM card for text and phone only - no data plan but he can access data when using WIFI

When he is using WIFI and he sends a text, instead of his name showing up, her name shows up. How can the sender's name be chaned to "John" when sending a text from WIFI the same way when WIFI is turned off?

Thank you.

Thank you for responding - Yes, she did. She used the phone for work and her work is highly confidential so she reset the phone to "Factory settings"

She called Rogers and she was advised it was "an Apple Problem" - since she has no time to talk to any more tech support people or go to an Apple store for help, I though I would try to find the answer for her. Could it be that her phone is "locked to Rogers" and somehow Apple locked it to her APPLE ID until she paid someone to unlock it?

Can't figure out why the texts change to her name on WIFI while it is his name on text messages when WIFI is not available

Thanks again

The phone must be in her name because an 11 year old cannot be financially responsible for monthly payments, so I am sorry, but more questions

1. Would the Apple ID account for WIFI text messages showing her name while non-Wifi messages show his name?

2. If the answer is yes and it is her Apple ID, how does he get his own apple ID? - this would be a problem for all parents who have Iphones for their children for safety reasons so they can stay in touch

thank you.
