With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:

    • what system version are you running?
    • how much free space on your boot drive?
    • how big is your library, i.e. how many photos?
    • what fixes have you tried?
    • where is your library located?
    • did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
    • are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    • what type of Mac?
    • have you run any "cleaning" or "optimizing" apps on your Mac?
    • how are you trying to download to the library?
    • what happens when you do?  Any messages?  What are they?

Apologies for tardy response.  Up until 25 August photos I took on my iPhone 5S appeared in Photos.  Now they don't & I can't delete any photos in Photos but I can on my phone.  There is plenty of free space, my library is only circa 400 photos.  I have a Macbook Pro running Yosemite.  When I send an email & click attachment my recent photos are in Finder under Media > Photos, so they are on my machine but not in Photos !

During August whenever I turned on my laptop a box came up requesting me to sign in to iCloud, which I ignored for a few days but it returned each time I switched on my machine.  Since I signed in the box has not reappeared but is this part of the problem ?

    Hi LarryHN,

I did not understand the latter part of your question.

On my Mac in System Preferences - iCloud photo library, my photo photo stream, & iCloud photo sharing are all activated.

On my iPhone - iCloud photo library, upload to photo stream, download & keep originals & iCloud photo sharing are all activated.
