I can't get my iPod Touch (5th Generation) to automatically connect to my car's bluetooth. Can this even be done?

I was using my iPhone 6 to play my music in my car and it always automatically connects to the Bluetooth in my car. I just bought an iPod Touch because I needed more storage for my music and it won't automatically connect to the Bluetooth in my car like the iPhone. Every single time I turn the car on I have to go into the settings of the iPod, open up Bluetooth and then select the Bluetooth for my car. I've even disconnected the Bluetooth on my iPhone thinking it might be interfering but that hasn't fixed it either. Do the iPods just not automatically connect or am I doing something wrong? This is really annoying me!

Thanks for any help/suggestions.

iPod touch (5th generation), iOS 8.4.1, null
