Sep 10, 2015 11:36 AM in response to doctorjoepby ChrisJ4203,★HelpfulFrom what I took away from the Keynote, the TV OS is completely different, as well as significant updates to the hardware. It doesn't seem the older versions will support the old. You may be able to get more information here. http://www.apple.com/tv/

Sep 10, 2015 11:44 AM in response to ChrisJ4203by doctorjoep,I saw that they called it TV OS. I wondered if it was a make-over of the OS in the current Apple TVs or something brand new.
Of course, even if the software is totally different, I would hope they'd do some sort of update for the earlier TVs to allow them to, say, use Apple Music and other apps that are either included or developed later.
At the very worst, I could get another new Apple TV, I guess.

Sep 10, 2015 11:59 AM in response to doctorjoepby Alley_Cat,I think as they are still selling AppleTV 3 (perhaps for use in other rooms with reduced features?) that Apple Music access will be added - no idea of sales figures but if there are a few million ATV 3 users and 20% would sign up for Apple Music to use via AppleTv it's not a figure to be sniffed at.

Sep 10, 2015 12:05 PM in response to doctorjoepby ThierryR,The interface might be updated on Apple TV 3 (my assumption only), we know for sure that the new remote will not work with the older Apple TV:
"Compatibility
Apple TV is compatible with high-definition TVs with HDMI3
Siri Remote is compatible with Apple TV (4th generation)
Remote Loop is compatible with Siri Remote"
I think Apple TV 3 will not be able to handle most of the high end games that the app may offer. TVOS being very close to iOS maybe publishers will have the same type of restriction that when you try to download a app from the app store that require "iPhone 5 and up" to play.
Just my 2 cents.
