Install a recovery disk?

Restarting my MBP with Cmd-R does not take me to the Recovery Disk, nor to an option to use Time Machine - and I think I know why, now. I replaced the internal Hard Disk a few months ago, using a clone app to transfer the old system partition to the larger drive. I guess I cloned only the partition with the system on it, and not the whole (original) drive, because the original drive have been partitioned for Boot Camp. And since the Boot Camp partition had on it Windows plus Windows apps and files, I thought that the Mac clone app would not be able to transfer it - so I handled that Windows transfer differently. But I thereby bypassed and forgot about the Recovery Disk which was also on the original internal drive.

So my question: How can I - or can I - transfer the old Recovery Disk partition now, to my new drive somehow, some way? Of course the two partitions now on the new internal drive are loaded up with apps and files and Mac and Windows systems.

Have your data backed up.

Try this: Boot the MBP with the OPTION + COMMAND + R keys.

The result should be a display with a revolving globe.

This will connect you to the Apple servers.

By following the directions, you will be able to install the ORIGINAL OSX that the MBP came with (with the recovery partition).

Then you can reinstall Yosemite.

A solid Internet connection will be required.

Ciao.

I'm sorry - the new internal drive I installed DOES have the Recovery Disk on it, after all. I was looking for it as a partition (through using Disk Utility), but it not visible that way - instead I needed to look at About This Mac>System Report> SATA/SATA Express>... under the disk report is listed the partitions AND the Recovery Disk.

So I'm back where I started - unable to get to the Recovery Disk by using CMD+R at start-up, and I don't know why.

Thank you. That is what I suspected. No Internet recovery for a 2009 MBP.

I recommend that you start fresh from the beginning. You will need the original installation disks and/ or the white Snow Leopard retail disk:

Erase the HDD and install Leopard or Snow Leopard/

After you have Snow Leopard installed, run the Snow Leopard combo update:

That will meet the requirements for Yosemite which you can download from the App store or your account.

Ciao.
