Q: Sync tone without losing music?
I'll make this as short as I can. 2014 MBA 128gb running latest up to date Yosemite, iTunes. iPhone 6. I'm running Win7 on bootcamp. Rarely use the tiny OSX partition, but for occasional iPhone sync in iTunes. After putting about 10 gb of music on iPhone, For space saving, I removed the iTunes music file from internal sad and put on external drive. So I have no music in MBA itunes. Is there a way for me to sync a ringtone to the phone with this iTunes and not have it delete all my music without moving that music file back into iTunes? Thanks!!
iPhone 6, iOS 8.4.1, null

I Think this should work with ringtones. Read this carefully before proceeding. Make sure that you enable Manually Manage Songs and Videos. Turn off auto sync first as well.
Move content from iTunes on your computer to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Launch iTunes and go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices, check the box that says Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically. Click OK. Now you can connect the phone without worrying about it syncing unless you initiate the sync. but read the link above first.
