Q: Formating BOOTCAMP partition on Windows Installation

Many guides said that when i got to the part selecting which partition of the disk i wanted to use for installing windows i should select Bootcamp and format it before using it. When i formated it the bootcamp partition dissapeared. How can i fix that? Im trying to install Windows 8.1

On Macs prior to Late 2013, there is only one method of installing Windows, it is called BIOS/MBR method. Later models (which are Intel UEFI-compliant) allow EFI or BIOS modes. 2015 Models will choose EFI by default.

BCA will create a FAT32 partition and a Hybrid MBR for BIOS installation. The two screen shots posted are from and older Snow Leopard. Latest screens are available at https://help.apple.com/bootcamp/mac/5.0/help/ . How to install Windows using Boot Camp - Apple Support is your reference for installing Windows.

If you interrupt Windows installation using Alt/Option key and select EFI Boot, and your Mac has the Hybrid MBR, you will see the GPT vs. MBR error message. BCA should not be interrupted when it starts the installation till you get to the partition selection screen. Disk Utility usage requires significant manual intervention and should be avoided. If you run into issues, seek help on ASC.

Right now, you seem to be in the GPT vs MBR issue. Please post the output of the following Terminal commands, which will help ascertain what needs to be corrected.

    diskutil list

    diskutil cs list

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

The "sudo" commands will prompt for your password, and it will not be echoed back. You may also see a warning about improper use of "sudo" and potential data loss due to "abuse" of the command.

If you want to avoid issues, as has been mentioned, use only BCA till you get to the partition screen. Use BCA to remove the existing partition (Boot Camp: Remove Windows from your Mac) and start over again, if necessary.

Well i actually made it. I solved it by burning the windows iso on a dvd-r but now i have a problem installing the drivers bootcamp put in my flashdrive, so i have no sound and no wifi. When i entered in the flashdrive and hit set up the process would start but then an error appear and said: this upgrade path is not supported.

I didnt interrupt in any way the process of bootcamp and i did not use disk utility for the installation of the partition with windows. I was able to install it by using a dvd with the iso instead of a usb but i am now having problems installing the drivers of windows 8.1 (the windows i just installed) to be compatible with the harddrive of my mac.

Can you check the version of Bootcamp drivers by looking in Bootcamp.xml? Here is an example.

      <ProductManufacturer>Apple Inc.</ProductManufacturer>

      <ProductVersion>6.0.6133</ProductVersion>

      <ProductCode>{FCFFE6B6-BAE8-490E-88D0-097A9DA1C43D}</ProductCode>

What is the year/model of your Mac?

First of all thanks to all of you guys for trying to help me.

With your info and some stuff i saw in guides i saw that my problem is that since my macbook pro is a late 2011 i had to install it via DVD. I burned the iso on a DVD-R and proceeded to install windows 8.1 without a problem. Then i got the drivers from the apple website for my specific model (Macbook pro 13'' late 2011) that would work on Windows 8.1 . I copied that in a usb flashdrive and then i installed it on windows. Everything's running smoothly.
