It's unclear if you had this setup correctly so I'd assume you may have had something incorrect with that, it is easy to enter the wrong password.

Sep 11, 2015 1:07 PM in response to msjgirl21by Drew Reece,Messages doesn't get all your history if you set it up again - it may be normal to have no messages, depending on when you recreated the account settings.
As for it being greyed out, I suspect the account is disabled or not setup. You will need to describe where it is greyed out if it is not in the main Messages window, is it greyed out in Finder or somewhere else? Ensure it is enabled in the preferences.
I'm also confused by your earlier post, you suggested it had started working on this Mac, but now it isn't - is that correct, did it work earlier?
For what it is worth reboot & try setting up the Messages account again.
