Q: Unresponsive Desktop

Not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but I just got a new MacBook Pro retina, 13 in. It's been working fine, but last night I turned it off and this morning turned it back on, logged into my account and tried using the different apps e.g., safari or finder or chrome. It would open, but after that the spinning wheel would just appear and that would be that. I tried to force quit, but that would also take a very long time and after it did pop up, everything was stated to be unresponsive. I did the diagnostic tests and results said everything was ok, I also spoke to representatives from apple and they tried the verify and repair the disk permissions, which seemed to work for a little bit, but then the same problem arose. In the end, the representative said that it was most likely because of the account on my MacBook...which I'm not really too sure how that would affect the MacBook as a whole (anyone got any ideas/explanations?? Really curious). I made a new account just to test it out, and it seemed to be the solution, but in the end I just did a factory reset and everything seems to be going smoothly...so far. Anyone else have/had this problem?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch,Early 2015), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

My first thought was the hard drive might be full, but then you said it works from another account. The reason could be that a user-specific process may not be responding or hanging in the background, causing high CPU or RAM usage. If it happens again, there is a utility called Activity Monitor (Launch Pad>Other) that will show you a list of all processes running. Any red ones are having issues, so you can quit them to fix the problem.

Same problem here, started this afternoon.   Rep had me reset SMC reboot, but no luck. Suggested I upgrade to Yosemite. Started at 6pm, didn't finish until around 3:30. Installed and I'm still slow.  Beach ball all the time, actions backed up

i I did look at activity monitor before calling, and had 13me out of 16mb in use. Looking at reply to you, I remembered I did see Kaspersky in red.  As soon as I can a cursor back ( been 20 mins now) I'll quit it and see what happens. Apple rep to call back at 8 today to check on OS upgrade

    Hi folks,

Am going to go out on a limb and suggest that you're all running Kaspersky Internet Security?

I've started a thread on the Kaspersky Forum (http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=332386)- where I suspect a recent update to KIS for Mac has caused this issue. Seems to be the case that we the affected have Macbooks, and that one of the Kaspersky processes is getting itself into a mess and taking the whole system down.

Disabling Kaspersky temporarily (turn Protection: Off) from the Kaspersky menu immediately alleviates the issue, which seems to confirm suspicions. Once the problem arises, the only way I can get my system back is by holding down the power button. I can't even get to the Force Quit menu.

If you are indeed running Kaspersky, I suggest reporting an issue on the My Kaspersky link, and quote these Apple Discussions/Kaspersky threads so they see it's not just an isolated incident. https://my.kaspersky.com/ to report an issue.

Not sure there's much else we can do right now until they get this looked at.

    Cheers,

    Gopha.

Also - Feel free to join the Kaspersky forum and post your experiences in that thread to get it noticed and hopefully moved up the priority list.

As of this moment am 99% confident KAV is the villain.  ran most of day with it off.  Turned in on a few minutes ago, goodbye Mac. Typing this on my iPad while I hear my hard drive screaming away.  Have sent my file info to Kaprrsky, advising them will stay off until a fix is announced.

    thanks to all who posted!

Over the past week, it's been confirmed that the recent 'B' build of KIS 15.0.1.378 has caused this issue. It's taking Kaspersky a little while to figure this out - over a week now.

Keep an eye on: http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=332386 for the ongoing discussion over there...

    Cheers,
