Does the T-Mobile (Unlocked GSM) iPhone 6S work on Verizon too?

Through the Apple Store App I tried purchasing a Verizon iPhone 6S but was unable as it said my account was not support in the checkout process by Apple. So I selected contract free and it showed T-Mobile, I went ahead a purchased the phone but then it occurred to me that it is a possibility that either the phone will not work on Verizon or if it does, some features might be limited. Apple's website is not really clear to me if my T-Mobile variant iPhone will work on Verizon as it just says the following...

"iPhone offers the same innovative features regardless of the wireless carrier you choose. If you choose AT&T or T-Mobile as your wireless carrier, your iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, or iPhone 5s will use GSM cellular technology for voice services and either GSM or LTE cellular technology for data services. All these devices can roam internationally on many GSM carriers around the world. See below for more details.

If you choose Sprint or Verizon Wireless as your wireless carrier, your iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, or iPhone 5s will use CDMA cellular technology for voice services and either CDMA or LTE cellular technology for data services. An iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, or iPhone 5s activated on Sprint or Verizon Wireless also has the ability to roam internationally on GSM networks using the provided SIM. For details on LTE network support, please see www.apple.com/iphone/LTE."

To me it sounds like the CDMA versions of the iPhones can use both technologies but the GSM versions only support GSM. If anyone could clarify, that would be extremely helpful, thanks!

I have this question as well. I had the same issue with my Verizon account, but went ahead and ordered the T-mobile off contract version so I could have it on day one.

I called Apple support just now, and the technician told me it would for sure work on other GSM carriers but he was not sure if it would work on CDMA networks. After further investigation I found this page: http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/ which shows the different iPhone models and the networks they are compatible with. From the looks of it, it appears that the T-mobile version will also work on Sprint, and Verizon. If this is the case, its possible that we can insert a Verizon sim from the get go and not activate the T-mobile sim that comes with it, or otherwise have it unlocked by T-mobile first then take it to Verizon. I'm hoping it is compatible with Verizon, as it appears to be on that page, but otherwise we may have to switch to T-mobile. Hopefully there will be an official answer from an Apple specialist, it would be a bummer to have a $1,000 brick on September 25. Fingers crossed!

The problem is not technical, it's administrative. Verizon historically refused to activate non-Verizon phones on their CDMA network, even though the hardware supports it. That policy changed as of a couple of weeks ago, and now Verizon says they will allow you to bring your own device. People who have tried have had mixed experiences, but in the end it appears possible. I suggest calling Verizon and asking.

hi , it's me again

I'm the guy that said verizon worked on tmo on launch day, it was a popular thread of mine!

not only is the iPhone 6 unlocked, but the t-mobile phones work on verizon!

this time , i don't think so. the 6s GSM model does NOT come with CDMA. the CDMA that comes with the 6s is Chinese CDMA. if your going to Sprint or verizon you will need their phones, it is no longer a "administrative issue" but now its back to a "technical issue".

until the phone shows up, and proves us otherwise, i think this is the best answer.

verizon may allow these phones if you turn on VoLTE, but without VoLTE you won't be make a telephone call. ditto for sprint..

the only other difference is the AT&T model has channel 30, and the CDMA VZ/Srprint does not.

if you get a VZ you will be able to use this iPhone on AT&T or t-mobile with no issues as long as you don't need channel 30

if you get a sprint one, its the same as verizon, but you have to get a device unlock

As of about 3 weeks ago, Verizon announced official support of the iPhone 6 and 6+ from other carriers if they are unlocked. They have not yet announced such support for the 6S series. However, it is unlikely they would do so before it was released.
