Q: Mac freezes and shuts down

Hi guys,

In the last 2-3 months it happened twice that my iMac froze, iTunes audio started stuttering and then it rebooted on itself and gave me the "critical error, had to shut down" message page (the one with the blurry background, please forgive me if I'm not using the proper english terms). It happened both times in similar setting: using Photoshop CS4, iTunes playing, Mail and Safari opened in background, one Finder window open.

My iMac is a 24" early 2009 (aluminum)

2,66 GHz Core 2 Duo

8 GB RAM

1 TB HD

OS X 10.10.5

Here's the Error report, it really isn't my cup of tea so I hope someone of you will get some useful informations out of it. Thanks for the help!

    Hi FragBif,

    Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like the computer restarted on its own. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

    OS X: When your computer spontaneously restarts or displays "Your computer restarted because of a problem." - Apple Support

    Hi Mario49,

    Thanks for the link. From what I can read something went horribly wrong with a third party software or piece of hardware;

    -I only had 2 pieces of hardware connected when the issue occurred: my Wacom Cintiq 22HD (that is working fine and I don't know how could it malfunction beside non turning on) and the Kingston RAM (8 GB upgrade from the default 4 GB), about the RAM I checked it with Memtest 4 times and it didn't report anything wrong with it (assuming that's enough to check it, that memetest is reliable and that the issue isn't of erratic nature).

    - The only software running at both times was: Photoshop CS4, iTunes, Safari and Mail with Photoshop being the only third party one and, if that's the culprit of the issue, that's not a small issue for me being it the 90% of what my use of the Mac is set to. I've read somewhere (probably on the Adobe support community forum) that Adobe non longer supports/updates any products prior to CS6 (so the still current very used CS3, CS4 and CS5 are out) and that there's some Java issue with it but wouldn't the Kernel Panic occur more often if that was the case?

    Thanks for the help.
