Missing Draft, VIP and Archive Mailboxes in Mail.app

My draft, VIP and archive mailboxes have suddenly disappeared from the Mailbox list on Mail.app in Yosemite. They do appear in the Mailbox list when I go to my iCloud.com account on a web browser but are totally hidden in Mail.app. I've tried looking for a command in the Mail app to unhide them but to no avail. I am running Yosemite OS X 10.10.5 on a 2008 iMac. I've tried closing and opening the app, rebuilding mailboxes and rebooting the computer but nothing has brought tthem back. All my other mailboxes are there; all the ones I created plus the standard ones: Inbox, Sent, Junk and Trash.

How do I get draft, VIP and archive mailboxes back into Mail.app?

Thanks,

Ed

I had the same problem when I switched to a new Mac. I couldn't see the VIP folder, but when I right clicked next to someone I knew was a VIP, I had the option to remove them from VIPs. I selected the option to remove that one person and the folder reappeared. I then right clicked the person again and re-added them to VIPs. Works great now.

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.

Back up all data before proceeding.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select

Go Go to Folder

from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.

A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:

Envelope Index

ExternalUpdates.storedata

Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.

Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK. Typically, the process takes a few minutes, but it may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In that case, you may be able to speed things up by temporarily adding your home folder to the Privacy list in the Spotlight preference pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.

If the import operation stalls or fails with an error message, quit Mail, delete the two new index files (keeping the original ones that you moved to the Desktop), and try again. According to many reports, the second attempt may succeed after the first one has failed.

Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

Hi Linc;

Yes they do! Problem resolved. I had tried to save a message as a draft before and it simply disappeared with no draft box appearing. But after I followed your initial instructions, I had not tried doing a draft save, so perhaps that was the second step. I also selected an address as a VIP and it reappeared as well. When I deleted a message from the Draft folder, the folder remained.

Thanks for you help. Much appreciated!

Cheers,

Ed
