Why are my iMovie files exporting to .mov file instead of .mp4?
I am trying to "share" an iMovie file to .mp4 but it's defaulting to a .mov file. How do I change it to export as a .mp4 file?
MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2011), iOS 8.4.1

Hello LauraZo,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It seems like you're using the Share feature in iMovie for Mac to export your video, and you want it to be an ".mp4" file.
When you Share your video, choose the "File" option. Then pick a video size of Low, Medium, or High. The resulting file should have the ".mp4" extension.
For a description of the other options when you Share a File, see http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.0.6/#/move6e0cb2ad.
All the best.
Thank you for your response, yes it turns out that since I chose "Best (ProRes)" that it was turning it into an .mov file. Just as you said, it exported it in .mp4 when I chose low, medium or high. :-)
Hi LauraZo,
Thanks for your reply. We're glad that this helped!
Cheers.
