Q: I recently sold my late son's iPhone but the buyer can't put his own Apple ID on it

I recently sold my late son's iPhone 4 having done a factory reset. Now the buyer can't use it because it needs my son's Apple ID. As he died over a year ago and I don't know his password, how can the buyer change to his own Apple ID?

iPhone 4, iOS 5.1.1

You need to temporarily get it back, and then take it, its original purchase receipt, and his death certificate to a physical Apple Store. If you can't get it or the documentation needed, give the buyer a refund.

Many thanks for such a swift reply. Unfortunately I don't have the original receipt as he lost it years ago. Do you think just the death certificate will do and some other form of identification of his and mine?
