Q: new pc, wants to download eveything again. i have on external drive but cant make cloud icon go away so rather than fast transfer im redownloading and reassigning location to external drive after deleting download. waste of time and bandwith

opps first time posting my apologies...I wrote question in header. i keep my music on pc and eveything else...mailnly movies #800 on external drive. Have added 5th (new) PC & my library shows but wants to download everything. how do i transfer between drives AND GET RID OF CLOUD ICON TOO??. only solutiuon has been to download, delete and reassign location waste of time and bandwith. i would just add files/folders but darn cloud download icon stays ON. easy fix? is it because of match or something. i could assign new location for library but REALLY want music to stay on hard drive 7000 songs and movies on external. what am i forgettting or missing? family uses homesharing and each pc/mac has external for own access and redundnacy. havent hooked drobo up yet so each pc/mac has it's own external for use and back up. when we buy movie it is hared but buyer moves from c to exterbal

thank you for your patience & any help.

Sincerely,  WS

    Hello WS,

I understand that you're trying to open an iTunes Library that's stored on an external hard drive, but your media doesn't appear as being local in iTunes. In such a situation you may need to redirect iTunes to the correct library by closing iTunes, then re-opening iTunes with the Shift key open and choosing "Choose Library..." in order to choose the library on your external hard drive.

Open a different iTunes Library file or create a new one - Apple Support

    Cheers

See Make a split library portable for a process you can use to place the entire library on an external drive in a portable shape that can be connected to any of your computers, as can a clone of it. This is the easiest way to move or copy your library to a new computer. Because you are copying your library, rather than just signing into your Apple ID, all content is available, rather than appearing to be in the cloud. And if you want to change which computer your device syncs with there is no problem, because it is still the same library as far as the device is concerned, rather than a new library with the same content imported.
