I bought a new hard drive for my macbook 2009 but when I try to reboot it from my installation disk, it gets stuck on the blinking question mark. What to do ? I tried pressing cmd+r / Shift / C / and a few other but it still get stuck on that blinking question mark

I don't know, don't think i have updated it since 2010. Internal drive. Installation disc. Whatever i do i can't get past the question mark unless i hold ALT while starting, then the computer just turns on and the marker is all u see.
Earlier i tried my friends hard drive from his macbook on this computer and it worked without any problem...
This is a new hard disk drive you have put into the computer? You have put the original installer disc (not one borrowed from a friend) into the optical drive that came with the computer, held down the C key while turning on the computer, and held it down until the computer has started?
