Q: How can I tell if I have successfully unlocked an iPhone

I just finished doing the AT&T unlock procedure so my iPhone 4S should now be unlocked. Is there any way to confirm that the unlocking was successful?

iPhone 4S, iOS 8.4.1

If you connect to iTunes and restore as new you should get a message confirming the unlock. You can then restore from a backup.

I did not get any message. However, I just backed up and restored. What does "restore as new" mean?
