Q: Watch changed my first friend?

Anyone heard of this?  Sometime in the last week or two, my Apple Watch has changed my first friend to.... MYSELF.  Seriously, my initials, picture, and contact info!  The Watch app on my iPhone says the first friend is the same as it is intended to be, and doesn't show my name.  Powered off watch, nothing changed.  I hope I don't have to unpair it again!

I have no interest in texting myself...  can anyone help?

    Hi - try this:

    • On your iPhone, in the Contacts app, check that your contact details are correct - including your Apple ID email address and iPhone phone number.
    • Set new Messages conversations to start from your iPhone's phone number. On your iPhone > Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > Start New Conversations From - choose your iPhone phone number.
    • On your iPhone: go to Settings > General > Siri > My Info - check that your own contact card is correctly selected here.
    • On your Apple Watch: ask Siri "what is my name?" - correct the answer if required.
    • On your iPhone in the Apple Watch app: My Watch > General > Reset > tap on Reset Sync Data (you will not see anything happen - it runs in the background). Wait for a minute or so before re-checking your Friends on your watch.
    • It may also help to restart your watch again.

Thanks, I followed your steps and updated a couple things and restarted the watch, but problem is still unresolved.  Clicking on "Reset Sync Data" didn't display any message, hard to tell the reset really happened.

As I said above, you will not see anything happen when you tap on Reset Sync Data - it is a background process.

    Try also:

    - Remove all Friends via the Apple Watch app (My Watch > Friends > swipe left on each name).

    - Restart both devices.
    - Add Friends back again.

So, there's a bug? You are suggesting a lot of extra work here.

    And it recurs. Very frustrating.

I am trying to find a permanent solution. If I go to the Watch app on my phone and delete the person in the first position and then add them back, it seems to reflect on my watch, but only temporarily. Did you ever find a better solution?

I'm also having this problem. It's clearly a bug. It didn't manifest for me until the latest WatchOS update.
