Sep 14, 2015 10:38 AM in response to js1960by John Galt,It's not clear from your screenshot whether you selected "Macintosh HD" or not. If you did, and the dialog is nevertheless indicating a destination other than that, I have no explanation.
What you should do at this point is create a Time Machine or equivalent backup or your existing system. Confirm that no folder named "backups.backupdb" exists at the root level of the volume on which you intend to install Yosemite — if there is, drag it to the Trash.
Then, if you encounter the same problems, delete the downloaded installer and start again.
Creating a bootable USB installer won't help if the destination volume is ineligible for the OS X installation.

Sep 14, 2015 5:08 PM in response to Linc Davisby js1960,I finally got it to install, at first it wouldn't let me select the HD but finally after poking around with it it let me. Not sure what I did though, but I'm up and running with Yosemite so that's all that matters. Thanks for the replies.
