I understand that you would like to play your purchased content on your HDTV. That is something that can be done with some assistance.
To answer your first question of playing the purchased content on your HDTV, yes you can do that. To answer the second question, saving the content to a USB drive or burning to a disk, that is something that can be done but would not play because of the DRM attached to it. The DRM will only allow you to play the content in iTunes and other supported Apple Devices.
One of those devices is the Apple TV. That is something that can be attached to your HDTV through an HDMI cable and be used to play all the purchased content from iTunes over Wi-Fi.
