How do I create motion tracked, animated dimension labels like this?

How do I create motion tracked, animated dimension labels like in this video:

Any tips or pointers to relevant tutorials would be appreciated. I'm hoping this can be achieved in Motion, ideally with a count-up dimension number as the dimension line expands.

Motion should be able to handle a simple track like that without any external plugins.

I took the Bezier tool and clicked on the two corners of the block (I was very careful to select the exact corners). I added Behaviors > Shape > Track Points.

In Track Points inspector, click Movement > Analyze. (for this example, it took only a single pass.)

Add the text. To the text add Behaviors > Motion Tracking > Match Move. To the Match Move source well, drag and drop the Track Points behavior from the line object. Click on the Adjust > Rotation button to add rotation to the already selected Position option. (You can add Scale too, but it's not necessary in a scene like this.)

In the Text Properties inspector, Adjust Position and Rotation to fit the scene (I set the X and Y first to touch the 3 to the line, then adjusted Rotation X to bring the text "upright"; Y to swing it around to the line and Z to set the baseline down on the Bezier line. It took a couple of tweaks after that.)

What you see is what I got. Track Points even tracked through the fade (if you notice - I looped the segment 3 times for the demo playback.)

The "count-up" number is a whole different ball of wax... If you'd like to see how its done, use this generator as a guide:

You should be able to program design it for scale. You would need a mechanism to convert from pixels to whatever the current "view"/zoom level would be. It's not trivial. For this particular generator, screen pixels for different video formats are used for scale conversions (so it uses "fixed sets" of distance values.) (You would definitely need a reference ruler in the scene to be able to adjust the scale of measurement.)
