Q: Map labels keep reappearing in my project

I made an 80 page book project of a trip I recently took, organized by day. Each day is its own section. At the beginning of each section, I put a map to show where that days photos were taken. I dropped a pin on each map, rather than have 10-20 individual geotag pins. I then unticked all the automatic geotags and turned off map labels.

I then exported the book as a PDF to review it. The PDF has returned all the automatic geotag pins to the map, so each map shows the geotag for all the photos in the entire book. Additionally, the map labels returned despite being turned off. I checked my settings in the project and the extra tags and labels were still off. I tried reexporting to PDF twice. Every time I get the same problems.

How can I have each map show only the single pin I dropped for that map? And how can I turn off map labels so they don't show up in the PDF? I'm not going to gamble by ordering a $150 photo book, hoping that it resembles the project rather than the exported PDF.

Don't, the printed book will look exactly like the preview of the book, created by "preview Book". Click anywhere on the empty background between the book pages, ctrl-click, and select "Preview book".

To have only one marker on a map, I use the map themes with one photo included. I add one photo to a page, then change the theme to a map with one photo included, and only the marker  pin for that one photo will show on the page.

After you disabled "show labels", they should not show in the final version.

Does it only happen for your current book or also if you create a second book, just for testing?

Are you previewing using this method?

Preview a print project in Photos, iPhoto, or Aperture to avoid issues - Apple Support

If so count on the printed book matching the preview exactly

    Hello,

I tried previewing it that way and the unwanted pins and labels still appear.

    Hello,

The previewed project also shows the unwanted labels and pins. I tried creating a new book with a single picture, added a map, and unchecked the auto-placed pin and map labels boxes. I then dropped a new pin elsewhere and previewed the project. Both pins showed up and both had map labels.

In short, the problem persisted in the test book

Try in a different user account. Sign into the Guest Account, then launch photos and create a simple test book.  See this knowledge base article:
Isolating an issue by using another user account

    • If the problem persists, you will know, that you are having a system wide issue.  Then I'd reinstall the system by booting into recovery:   OS X: About OS X Recovery
    • If it is working in the Guest account, you will know, that some preferences files or other files in your user library may be problematic. In that case I#d remove the Photos preferences file.

    Try this:

    • Quit Phoots if it is running.
    • Then open your User Library and remove the complete folder ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Photos/
    • and the file   ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Photos.plist

Your user library may still be hidden. To reveal the hidden User Library:

    • Bring the Finder forward by clicking on the Desktop or the Finder icon in the Dock.
    • Select your user/home folder (with the house icon in the Finder sidebar)
    • With that Finder window as the front window, press the key combination ⌘J to bring up the View options.
    • In the View options panel enable ’Show Library Folder’. That will make your user library folder visible in your Home folder.
    • Open your Home folder, then the Library folder, then Containers.
    • Move the complete folder ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Photos to your desktop. Move the entire folder, not just the contents.
    • Remove   ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Photos.plist as well.

Now restart the Mac, launch Photos  and try again to disable the labels on the maps and to preview your book.  If all is well, delete the folder from the Desktop.

    Hello,

I will try this in a few days. I signed up for the iCloud Photo Library and Photos has been uploading for 5 days now. I'd hate to have to start over so I'll try your suggestions after the upload is complete.

Thank you for your suggestions; I will let you know if they work in a few days.

    Hello,

I tried making a project using a guest account and it had the same problem.

I reinstalled the system via WiFi (which took a while) but Photos still had the same problem.

I'm stumped and wondering if its a bug for all users.

I tested again. On my MacBook Pro with MacOS X 10.10.5 I am now having exactly the same problem. The places labels reappear in the PDF, when I create a preview PDF of the book. But they are still disabled in the map options.   I tried several book themes and map layouts.

When I first tested this, I must have been sitting on a different mac with a different system version, sorry.
