Servers EnterpriseTo put things in simpler terms you cannot upgrade the VRAM on your existing video card, you need to buy a new (or second hand) video card which has more VRAM.
The articles referred to by Illaass will provide some suggestions for new cards.
As some general comments on choices of video cards.
Nvidia cards work best if your going to be using Adobe applications, AMD video cards work best if your going to be using Apple's Final Cut Pro X software. It is also worth picking a card that matches the list below to ensure compatibility with Apple's new 'Metal' software for future proofing.
- Nvidia GeForce GTX 400 series and newer
- Intel HD4000 and newer (Ivy Bridge or newer)
- AMD HD7000 and newer
Note: No Mac Pro models use or support Intel video cards so it is only the other two options you need to consider. I have a HD7950 as an example and this is therefore supported for Metal, a GTX 680 would also be supported amongst others.
