ApplicationsIt's normal for the fan to run continuously, and the machine does need servicing to restore the serial number. If you feel that the fan is louder than usual, see below.

I had shut down every App, removed anything running in the back ground etc etc. I tried downloading various Versions of SMC updates and was unable to install due to (probably) the Serial number being 'lost'. I think I'll wait until I return to Australia because I'm moving regularly from place to place across France. Thanks again for your help, but the problem persists - I'll just have to put up with it and use it when needed. Emails etc are taken care of by 3 iPhones and an iPad Mini. The MacBook is for the office work. Cheers.
