If you have forgotten the firmware password you set on your MacBook Pro you will have to take it to an Apple store genius bar to have the password removed: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203409 the user cannot do the removal.

Once you get the firmware password removed/reset, you can reset the user account password by restarting the MBP holding the Command and R keys. When the machine restarts, from the Utilities drop down menu select Terminal. When the Terminal window has opened, type EXACTLY:

resetpassword

and press Enter. When the Reset Password window opens, select the internal drive, then highlight the user account, and type a new password twice. Click Save and then accept the next dialog window that opens.

Go to the lower right of the Reset Password window and agree to reset the home directory permissions.

Go to the apple left side of the menu bar, Restart and you are done.

If you set a firmware (bios) password and have forgotten it, you must first get that removed. Take the Mac to an Apple store genius bar and get the firmware password removed.

Then you can restart on the recovery HD partition and reset your user account password.

Then try to hold down option (alt) upon start up to get to the recovery partition, there you will find the disk utilities as well
