Does OS X support AirPrint authentication like IOS

When we connect to an AirPrint printer in IOS we are challenged to login as expected. However, when we connect to the same AirPrint printer from OS X it does not challenge, the job sends but simply disappears. We need to authenticate at this stage because the job is being sent to a release queue so the user needs to authenticate at the printer to release their job.

These are BYOD devices so are not part of a domain. Is this behaviour normal? Is it possible to enter credentials somewhere in system preferences?

Thanks,

In a normal setup a connection to a printer that supports AirPrint will not require any authentication. So this is not a function of AirPrint or the printer but third party software like Papercut or uniFLOW, which can be used to monitor and control your printing. For OS X printing you may need to use that vendor's driver so that you get the ability to authenticate or at least enter details that can be used to release the print job.
