Q: Should I delete iPhoto after installing Photos to avoid extra storage?

As per the title,

Should I delete iPhoto and its library after migration to Photos?

I have an app called PhotoSweeper Lite, very nice in finding duplicate photos and it saves me a lot of storage when I first used it. Now after migrated to Photos I can see that all my photos now duplicated!! is that true ? because I see other topics in "Apple Discussion" saying that Photos generate alias to the original photo.

Another Question: is that true in Photos App there are no Locations in the photos? because i'm always sorting photos by location.

Thanks in Advance

You can but it is no a good idea - it will save very little space - Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support - and if you want or need iphoto in the future you are in trouble -t he application is extremely difficult ro impossible to get again and the library can be restored from a backup but that tis a pain and can be troublesome - best to leave them for a while until you are positive you no longer need iPhtoo

And Photos does not generate aliases to the original photos - not sure where you read that but it is not correct - both iphoto and Photos use HardLinks to the originals and previews so they are not duplicated - Photos doe not create aliases to the photos

and Photos do not have "no locations" - it does not change the location data - it does not have a location sort available or a way to manage locations  but what you have is there and displays in  the info window - there will be more on that in El Captain Sept 30 - https://www.apple.com/osx/elcapitan-preview/

To elaborate a bit on LarryHN's answer:

Hard links can be a bit confusing. A hard linked file and the original file are like duplicate files; they are having both the same file size and are looking the same in the Finder. But they are sharing the data on the disk, because both are using the same entry (inode) in the file table. So the original  files and previews are in your new Photos library do not require extra storage, even if your Photos Library has roughly the same size as the original iPhoto Library. Deleting the iPhoto library will not free the storage that is shared with the new Photos library. You have to delete the original and  all hard links to a file, before the storage will be released.  See this document:   Six Colors: The (hard) link between Photos and iPhoto
