iMessage conversation not in blue

One of my contacts, with an iPhone 5, is not showing up in the iMessage conversation in blue. This does not seem to be a problem with any of my other contacts with iPhones.

This was working correctly until 2 days ago when using both my iPhone 6 + and MacBook pro. All software is current for iOS 8 and Yosemite X. How can I get this corrected?

The message is green on sending. I tried starting a new thread, but the information that comes up is green not blue. (Only the email is blue in the contact list.) I went into my contact information for this person to ensure that the cell number was identified as an iPhone. It was identified as an iPhone so I created a new contact and put the number in that contact. That was unsuccessful as well. So basically, the phone number is not blue when I pull up that contact. Any other suggestions?

Thanks...Sue

If the messages are green, not blue, then they are standard SMS text messages, not iMessages. You didn't mention if this was on sending or receiving. Anyway, the contact may have removed whatever contact you are sending to from their iMessage account. Verify that you are sending to an iMessage linked contact. To Try starting a new thread, do NOT use the same thread that is giving you issues. In the recipient box, type the name of the contact and choose a BLUE method. For example, his email address may be greed, but his mobile number blue.
