Power mac g4 not working with 22" Apple Cinema Display:(

Hey all,

My System specs:

Machine ID: 406

Model Name: Power Mac G4 (AGP graphics)

Processor info: PowerPC G4

Machine Speed: 500MHz

OS 9.2

Graphics Card: ATI Radeon 7500 32MB DDR VGA/ADC AGP Video Card

I had an old G4 mac sitting around the house that I decided to make a bit of a project of. It's running protools with the digi001 sound card, pretty retro but nice old bit of kit. I planned to dress it up all nice with the harmon kardon speakers (just for movies not the protools) and an Apple Cinema Display. I got the speakers and found I had to mod them with a d class amp. Then my 22" display arrived and I found my motherboard wasn't equipped to power the monitor via my ATI Radeon 7500 32MB DDR VGA/ADC AGP Video Card. So, following info I found online I bought an Apple A1006 DVI to ADC Adapter and a Belkin ADC to DVI ADC30M/DVI24F #T2774G/A F2E9142-WHT-APL Apple Monitor Adapter

Much to my disappointment it doesn't work. I can see there is power getting to the monitor as the little light in the power switch lights when I push the button but other than that there's no life. The mac works fine with my standard vga monitor. What am I missing folks? Is my card not up to the job? Will it work on this system at all. I'd appreciate any advice getting this little project finished.

Kind Regards,

The Sawtooth (AGP Graphics) does not have the power pins in the 2x AGP slot to supply required power to an ADC port equipped graphics card. As of such, one cannot use an ADC monitor with an AGP Graphic Sawtooth G4 without a special powered ADC adapter.

A later AGP Graphics G4, the Gigabit Ethernet, had the necessary power supplied to the graphics card slot and is able to use ADC monitors with ADC port equipped 2x AGP compatible graphics cards.

Hey japmac,

Thanks for the suggestions however I was aware of these things already. As you'll see in my original post I already have all the relevant power/adapters that make the monitor compatible with my G4 model i.e. Apple A1006 DVI to ADC Adapter and a Belkin ADC to DVI ADC30M/DVI24F #T2774G/A F2E9142-WHT-APL Apple Monitor Adapter

Since making this post I've tested the monitor via the mini display port on my macbook and it works so I know it's not a fault with the monitor itself. I've also ordered an ATI Radeon 9000 PRO to replace my ATI Radeon 7500 that way I can bypass the Belkin ADC to DVI and go straight into the DVI and see if that works. It could be a faulty adapter and since the monitor works going straight into DVI on my other system I'm hoping this will solve it.

Any other suggestions are welcome.
