The Mac versions of all these apps - Photos, Pages, Keynote, Numbers - are more capable than their iOS versions. They do not have the same feature set just the same data formats. So you can apply Styles with Pages for iOS but can't create them, which you can do with Pages for Mac. Faces on Photos is another example... No AppleScripting on the iOS apps, but available on the Mac ones and so on. When the apps were re-booted to share the data formats some features were lost, sure, but they are being added back as the apps are developed.
I very strongly disagree!
While the words 'dumbing down' might not exactly fit this situation to a tee, they certainly describe the over all attitude of Apple toward Aperture.
Aperture (like Bento) was deliberately and unceremonoiously relegated to the trash bin of time when Apple announced it would no longer be supported in future OS versions. This was done, no doubt, in order to placate the users of Apple's teeny computers so they could pass their heavily filtered selfies around to each other and to sell iPads and iPhones.
Look at the last 'BIG' apple announcement. First up on the stage was Apple's new collection of super duper watch bands. How far it has fallen.
Aperture, in my opinion, was far and above the best organizing and searching software ever. Neither Photos or Lightroom even come close!

Sep 23, 2015 11:53 AM in response to Gerald Giffordby Terence Devlin,You may disagree but it's factually accurate to say that the Mac versions of these apps are more powerful and have more features than the iOS versions.
That Apple made their decisions in the interest of selling the products they make seems rather like common sense. I'm not sure why you're surprised...

The Mac versions are more powerful than the iOS versions but not as powerful or easy to use as they were before Apple chose to make them more like the iOS versions. That is what I mean by "dumbed down".
I am sure that Apple is making the changes in the interest of selling their products. What other reason would they have? We are, I think, complaining that Apple is killing off their most capable applications to focus more on the sharing of selfies with each other. I suppose that is where Apple sees the money. They have the capability and the money to serve both ends of the spectrum, the people who do real work with their Macs as well as the shallow selfie takers, but are choosing to throw the one group to the side.

Sep 23, 2015 12:52 PM in response to Badunitby rodphoto,To get back to my original post, we must not let Apple give up on all their professional software applications, Aperture is too good to let it die slowly of neglect. We can mobilise and persuade them that there is still a place for excellence as well as accessibility.
Anybody got any idea on whom we should approach with this?

Well easy to use is arguable, but as for the other point, as I said:
When the apps were re-booted to share the data formats some features were lost, sure, but they are being added back as the apps are developed.
I note the sneering tone in which the word selfie is used on the thread. These are folks too who are entitled to take any photos they want. Selfies have been around for a very long time...

I'm not really surprised! The writing was on the wall when Jobs removed the word 'computer' from the official company name.
Nevertheless, I feel let down and dismayed that Apple gave the impression Aperture was an important software product for nearly 10 years then dropped it like a dirty snow cone.
I'm a devout capitalist. I realize Apple's job is making money for the stockholders. I have no problem with that. Apple has more money than God. It's hard to believe they couldn't have continued to develop a pro image app AND placate photographers of the selfie and sharing types.

I'm getting replies to my last post by email but they are not showing up here???
For the record I am not advocating that particular petition website, really pointing out that they exist and could be an answer to the above question.
I don't think you would get anywhere with Tim Cook, he's probably the one who made the decision and he didn't strike me to be the sort of person who would change their mind easily.
Also. How do you quote someone on here? I cant find a button.
