Q: Don't give up on Aperture

can only agree with all of you. tried out I guess every alternative there is (incl. those mentioned in some responses) and they just can't compare to Aperture. So for me too, no further upgrades and joining you in the hope that someone acquires it and keeps it alive

In part for abandoning its user base. Like Aperture a reason to buy a MacBook.

The entire computer industry is down. Apple is actually the only segment of the industry showing growth.

Aperture was one of the selling points for getting my MacBook.  Most of the compeeting products run on  PC's. No need to invest in apple. They have abandoned there user community.

PC sales are down around 11 per cent.

Apple's sales are down between 1.5 and 3.4 percent. So, in a declining PC market, Apple are doing better than others, and also have a higher market share than last year. On other words, in a shrinking market, they're gaining market share.

Kind of blows your theory out of the water, no?

Do I agree with this. Where the pros go the amateurs follow. Getting rid of Aperture is very narrow minded.

I am a Photography teacher. We currently have 9 computers running Aperture in our department and have stopped updating all system software to ensure Aperture keeps working. We were hoping to update all the computers next year but it looks like we will not because we are afraid Aperture will not run on them. That seems to be our solution to the problem.

I am currently learning Lightroom and am very disappointed in its file management. Aperture's is FAR superior! I definitely am not a big fan of LR. Some of the things it does drive me crazy (like moving you to the block of grades when you change a picture grade - AWFUL). Will we eventually switch over? I am not so sure - Aperture is a superior database.

I can vouch for the fact that Aperture v3.6 works on El Capitan. So if you upgrade to Mac while that is the operating system Apple is installing it will work.

Thanks. Ill try it. If it does work well we can go ahead and update all of our computers . That means we will be able to run Aperture well into the future and will not have to switch to LR.

It works but there are some glitches. One has to do with brushes and the other is images displaying upside down in list view. These have been talked about in other threads. Hopefully these get addressed as problems in the OS and not Aperture or they will never be fixed.

Could have written those same words. Couldn't agree more!

After reading your comment about the glitches in Aperture, I went back and tested Aperture again on my Macs. I was not able to duplicate either of those glitches that you said you had on either of my Macs.

I have not been able to duplicate the stated problem with brushes other than I do see the image move by a few pixels every time a brush is applied, like the person said it does.  Here is the upside down image problem:

I don't usually view in this mode so no big deal for me.  Still, it is a chink in the armor.

Stress yee not my friend, once the plug-ins arrive for Photos it will be just as Aperture was, only without the bloat.

Once again that's missing the point entirely. Photo editors are a dime a dozen. What's unique about Aperture are its DAM features and workflows. There's nothing else on the market that approaches it.  You can never fix that with a plug-in.
