Sep 16, 2015 9:05 AM in response to lance-a-notby Niel,Insert the Mac OS X 10.6 install DVD, restart with the C or Option key held down, and specify the additional drive when setting up the installation.
Unless otherwise noted, Mac OS X 10.6 must be installed from a DVD, and isn't downloadable from the Internet.

Sep 16, 2015 11:01 AM in response to lance-a-notby The hatter,Depends on the GPU.. and the retail 10.6.3 DVD should work
Why not put SSD in now if you have not, a PCIe blade or SATA III along with 256GB or larger is the way to go.

Sep 16, 2015 11:09 AM in response to The hatterby lance-a-not,Thanks Hatter,
I didn't know what a "blade" even was...
I may upgrade down the road, for now this is just a backup/redundant system for my other MacPro for my studio.
Much appreciate it guys!!

Jan 16, 2016 7:30 AM in response to lance-a-notby VinceDaVinci,Trying a similar operation for similar reasons, but with an imac 2012 21.5' (2.7 Ghz intel core 5, has no DVD drive)
I bought the snow leopard DVD and have to install it from an mini mac via firewire/thunderbolt.
I put the imac in target mode and install 10.6 from the mini mac.
The installation is completed, but when I boot from my second partition(with snow leopard) , I get the white apple screen, and nothing else happens.
Any ideas?

DesktopsOne under-appreciated feature of Mac OS X Installation is that a stripped-down version of the incoming software is used to Install itself. If you cannot run the 10.6 Installer, that is because you cannot run 10.6 on that Mac.
