Desaturate a Pages document?

I have a 300-page Pages manuscript composed of individual PDFs in full color.

How can I desaturate the document [change color to B&W]?

Is it possible in Preview in MountainLion, e.g.?

iMac (27-inch Late 2009), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

Thanks, Viking…it did what you said, but didn't give me needed results…

My fundamental issue is to compress 1.3GB in Pages to under 400MB as a PDF...

Using the Print function I get it down to a PDF of 517MB…if I move from Pages to Doc [136MB] to PDF [118MB] it is TOO compressed and I lose sharpness when CreateSpace prints it.

Any suggestions for compression?

It's a 300-page manuscript with each page a separate PDF.

Thanks….walter

BTW I'm printing the 3rd volume of my weekly Potpourri blog…an item in Potpourri follows:

Viking raiders fully deserved their reputation for sensuality and recklessness. In 1012, e.g., when they feasted with the captured Archbishop of Canterbury--held for ransom. It got out of hand and the Archbishop was pelted to death with the bones of the animals eaten at the banquet. --Daniel J. Boorstein

I would hope that you have discovered the File menu ▸ Reduce File Size in Pages, before you initially made it a PDF from the print function. The ColorSync Utility also has a Reduce File Size, however again, your resolution may suffer, or it may not. Give it a try on a copy of your PDF based on the first sentence here. I just took a Pages v5.2.2 document with a single PDF image (from jpg) in it from a 500K PDF down to just 27K.

Sorry for the delay in responding…[we put our dog to sleep and caring for 93 YO mom]

Finally today I got to dealing with the issue and cut 15% from the book:

from 306 pp. to 264…that solved the problem of CreateSpace's size limit for a PDF.

Now I'll see if both the b/w and color versions come out sharp and clear.

Thanks for your help along the way…walter
