Can I charge iPhone 6/6 plus faster using a 12W iPad Adapter?

Hello, i have heard that by using an iPad adapter (12W), i can juice up my iphone 6 and 6 plus much quicker than the regular 5W adapter.

Can someone also tell me how much faster will my iphone 6 and 6 plus charge in terms of minutes as compared to my 5W adapter?

Thanks!

P.S - I know I can charge faster by turning on airplane mode.

iPhone 6, iOS 8.4.1, null

Yes, the 12W charger will charge an iPhone 6/6+ faster.

Charging the iPhone in Airplane mode will charge it about 4 minutes faster than just leaving it in standard mode.

in theory no although many claIm it does

but try it, the 12w is authorised for all iPhones so it will do no harm

It's not just theory. I have measured the charging current when charging a 6. With the 12W charger the initial input current is 1.5 amps. With the 5 W it is 1 amp. This is only true for the 6/6+; earlier phones it made no difference, 1 amp regardless of the adapter used.

There are USB voltage and current draw measuring devices (with digital readouts for voltage and current) out there for about $10-$15. You plug one connection into the charger/PC's USB port, then connect your device's charging cable into one of the USB connectors on the device, then connect your device to charge via it's cable.

Search Amazon for "USB current" and you'll see the device(s) in question. They work pretty well but some can be current limited in circuitry or even by the attached connecting cable.

That's the one I have, but at work I have a set of dummy loads with various connections available, I could check but it's never seemed that important. I get results similar to yours, about 1.55a max for the 12w, 1a for the 5w.

The PF is useful for me, high power analog amplification can be demanding for brief periods, its not our only test device(s) but its quick and simple onsite.
