iOS 9 Default Startup Apps?

I just installed iOS 9 onto my iPhone 6. The update went very smoothly and took just over 30 minutes over a Wi-Fi connection.

I have noticed that every time that I restart the iPhone (hold down the sleep/wake button for a few seconds until the "Slide to Power Off" appears, slide it, let ti shut down, and then press and hold the sleep/wake button for a few seconds to turn it back on), that there are a few Apps started automatically. Of course you see the Home Screen, but double-pumping the Home Button shows that these Apps are also already started: Settings, Reminders, Mail, Facebook, and Twitter.

Is there any setting that I can change to choose which Apps are automatically started, or to simply have No Apps automatically started?

Stedman1, thank you for your quick response. I just tried an experiment to test your suggestion.

I fist double-tapped the Home Button and flicked off the Settings, Reminders, Mail, Facebook, and Twitter screens. I then opened up 5 completely different apps. Double-tapping the Home Button shows those 5 apps screens - and I flicked them all off. I then restarted my iPhone as described above. After it restarted, double-tapping the Home Button once again shows these 5 apps screens: Settings, Reminders, Mail, Facebook, and Twitter.... I would like for it to behave like all previous iOS versions - and not have ANY other Apps screens visible when I double-tap the Home Button until after I actually open them myself.

Those apps have always started when the phone is powered on. It's just that in previous versions they did not show on the Quick Launch screen if you had not opened them. It's not clear why you close apps, however; I never do, unless an app misbehaves. I currently have 120 apps in my Quick Launch screen and I see no ill effects from it.

And now after each restart starts few apps automatically in Background.
It are ever the same apps.
Even close all apps and restart over hold both buttons (home+lock) = no change

And I have the Feeling this are apps who were open during the update.

And I don't wanna reseting completely my iPhone.

Kind regards,

Thomas

Thank you Lawrence,

yes i know that apps in the quick launch are not a problem.

But this behavior is not correct.

Apps those are not to see in quick launch should not are there after restart.
This was before the update so.
And this is by all other users, who i know, so.

And this is by my other iphone so.

And so that is the behavior not uniform and so is this wrong.

Oct 22, 2015 5:03 AM in response to thomas.gth

thomas.gth is indeed correct, and perhaps on to something. He mentions he has "the Feeling this are apps who were open during the update". Now that I recall I do use the Clock app often, and it's one of the two apps that constantly open at startup (the other one was Settings, naturally, as it's needed to update the IOS). Because of this, chances are it was open when I updated to the new IOS. So I'm not going to necessarily disagree with his assertion that apps which are open at update are the ones that automatically start up after the update.

There are those, I've noticed, who continue to hammer and hammer on the Quick Launch list view. Neither thomas.gth nor myself nor others with this issue are talking about Quick Launch, at all. This problem has nothing to do with Quick Launch. We're well aware of what that is and this is something different. We're talking about apps that are automatically booted up upon powering on the iPhone. Meaning, you boot up your phone, then immediately afterward double-click the Home button, these apps are in fact open and running. Again, it is not Quick Launch. So please stop insisting upon this, it is no help whatsoever and has nothing to do with the anomaly at hand.

Hi, having the same problem with my iPad Air here, after the device starts the "Quick Launch" is always filled with the same apps as it was prior the update to iOS 9, not the ones I used after the update!

I've tried everything to get rid of those > delete > respring > reset > restore etc. nothing changed, those apps still showing in the "Quick Launch" (double-click Home button).

This is super annoying, any fix is much appreciated.

By definition, what you see when you double-press the HOME button is the Quick Launch screen. So it has everything to do with Quick Launch. And it doesn't matter what you see when you double-press the HOME button. The phone works the same way whether you see no apps, 5 apps, or, as it is on my phone, 124 apps, because I never close them.

If you want to waste your time trying to fix a non-problem, be my guest. But all you are doing IS wasting our time.

I also have this problem and for me no non Apple apps can open when these apps are "open". I manually close all apps and restart and hard restart but i can still not open any byt Apples apps.

Two times have I manage to restart and somehow not get this problem and then everything works fine until restart when all apps are back in quick view.

Apple really need to fix this issue with an update soon.

There is nothing to fix. Please read all of the messages in this thread. After you have read them all if you have any new questions or insights please post them.

Do you really think all the people around here are dumb or what? WE ALL KNOW WHAT BACKGROUND PROCESSING IS AND NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT THAT! So please shut up and let us continue to analyze the problem / bug.

I repeat: This is a BUG! Nothing else.

It just doesn't mak ANY sense so tap 2-times on the Home-button just to have 50+ apps showing, no matter if they'e running or not. The whole feature is taken to absolute absurdity by having countless apps that haven't bees used in months instead of showing the true recently used apps.

I'm quoting Apple right now, just to give, a final note,

---

Switch between apps

You can quickly switch from one app to another on your iOS device. When you switch back, you can pick up right where you left off. Follow these steps:

  1. Double-click the Home button to see recently used apps.
  2. Swipe left or right to find the app you want to use.
  3. Tap the app.

To close an app, double-click the Home button to see recently used apps. Then swipe up on the app you want to close.

You can find these lines on the official Apple homepage: About Multitasking on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

AND NOW: Back to topic folks, this bug is super annoying. Apple MUST fix it asap.

I meant to reply here

OK I just noticed this on my phone today but only having settings automatically showing on recents

iPhone 5S

iOS 9.1

I have been reading through posts on this. It seems like it might be more of an annoyance that anything else.

would I be correct to assume that it is not a big deal? And that when I shut off and then turn on my phone, I can just swipe closed the settings "app"?

I mean it doesn't seem like a major issue

I would hate to have to reset everything for something that's not an issue

@ Laurence: Man please. You really don't get the point of this whole discussion plus you really don't get the reason behind this particular feature. PLEASE let the matter rest once and for all. No one is interested in your opinion cause everyone knows it's just nonsense. Thank you.

If it's nonsense, it's nonsense that Apple believes, too.

Please do not attempt to dictate who can post and what they can post.

@ Meg St._Clair: Are you kidding? Do you know what this nonsense Laurence tries to convince everybody is about? He tries to tell everyone that a bug (that now with 9.2 was adressed and eliminated!!) was "no problem", "no big deal" bla bla. If no one wanted this bug to be eliminated, why several people discussed it here?

And what the heck are you talking about with:

Apple was aware of this bug, cause it has been corrected with the roll-out of 9.2.

Maybe you really should read entire threads before posting useless lines. People had been truly bugged out by the repitative and useless lines that this Laurence guy wrote all day. He has now clue what he's talking about, but still tries to convince people with pure humbug.

I have been reading this thread from the beginning. It's unfortunate that some people are so stuck on their foolish misconceptions that they can't take advantage of the knowledge that Lawrence (whose name you should at least bother to spell properly) is offering. He knows quite a bit more about this that most people.

@ Meg St._Clair Please tell us about the benefit of his opinion.

a) he wasn't even aware of this bug

b) he tried to convince people that this is a feature

c) after I've proved him dead wrong, he still wrote repitative nonsense like "no need to close apps at all" etc.

I really don't see ANY use of his contribution tho this thread, and I'm absolutely incurious if he writes everyday allday on other threads (his 34.000+ points actually tell that he has nothing to do beside writing sth into this forum, congratulation Lawrence lol. EDIT: I see you even got more points than him, wow. Impressive).

And now: Tell me about my misconception. I'm VERY curious about what's coming now.
