iTunes won't backup my iPhone Apps, after iOS 9

When i had the iOS 8.4.1 in my iPhone 6 Plus, i did backup every week in my iTunes. When i click the backup button, itunes asked me for backup my apps, and later i can see the backup and the apps in iTunes. But everything change after install the iOS 9 in my iPhone. Now when i click the backup buttom, iTunes dont ask about the backup apps. Just "backup", but im not sure, because, when i go to the apps area, i cant see the last installed apps in my iphone, and was supposted to backup it in the iTunes. I called Apple Technical Support, but the dont help. I need to backup again iPhone.

For example. If i restore my iPhone, and then restore from the backup, the apps dont install to the iphone. Its a nightmare. But if downgrade to iOS 8.4.1. I can do it again perfectly.

So thats means its something with the iOS 9 and iTunes. BTW ive the new iTunes update 12.3 in my Mac.

Great recommendations!!!! I was going to reply to you recommending to check the Apps box in iTunes > Preferences > Store but upon re-reading your post a second time I noticed that you had already so stated. I think if you have the Apps box selected in "Store" you will not have to "check each day for App Updates within iTunes" as you mentioned above. With that check mark I believe iTunes does it for you automatically or so it appears on mine. Thanks again...

This is by far the most uncomfort Step Apple has done ever in defeating APP Backup / Extraction from its devices.

I dont care about slicing whatever having Multi App Versions on my IPAD saving some Megabytes.

What a Space saver that will be ...wow.

I want a secure Backup of all my Apps including In-App Purchcases for what i paid for on my MAC & PC as i had it alltime.

I am a Musician. I paid hundred of Euros for Apps and in APPS which i now, since IOS 9, cannot install

or use anymore once one of the Companys will quitt Business or already has Quitt Business.

I have a possibility for my original copy of an IOS App to be restored perhaps Single Step now sure.

But what about all my in App Purchases now ie Effects, Mixers, Sounds, Samples i bought in that App if the App has been removed from Itunes?

What guarantee do Apple App Purchasers get to secure their in AppPurchases with IOS9 ?

Do i now always have to worry this and that App Company might discontinue Business

or remove an App with In App Purchases i cannot use then anymore one day?

Forgot seems to be a easy Support Solution for that ....

Apple User : Simply buy a second or triple 128 GB IPAD AIR / Pro Model clone it and have it with all Apps including in APPs cloned secure in your shelf.

Great Step Apple Thank you.

If you have the app in iTunes, it will still be there even if it has been removed for the App Store, and will still work on the phone. You can even delete it from the phone and still reinstall later it from the copy in iTunes.

That won't work. How would you copy any of those apps to iTunes or another iOS device?

HighEscape, if it is any consolation in "concept" (note quote marks) I basically agree with you, not every word but in concept nonetheless. I suggest that you follow Malcolm's recommendations above, I also think that what he has recommended to you will work. I have Apps checked in iTunes > Preferences > Store and it works for me although I realize that the Apps I use are still in the App Store (different case than yours). Give it a try and let us know, please. Would be good feedback for the rest of us. Best.... elcpu

To all here - might want to check out this article on Tidbits http://tidbits.com/article/15967 which states: "Many users updating to iOS 9.0.1 saw a quirk where recently updated apps had to be updated again. iOS 9.0.2 doesn’t seem to share this oddity. However, some apps may update soon, because iOS 9.0.2 adds App Slicing, which had been previously withheld from iOS 9 due to a bug. App Slicing allows developers to set up their apps so end users only download the part of the app specific to their device, reducing installation sizes."

Fan-fricking-tastic!

Once again, we have yet another botch-job of an iOS and iTunes updates, and once again my iPhone now no longer fully-functions, because Apple are complete muppets, and can't organise a drinking session in brewery! 😠

Seriously, what the frik, Apple?! Just updated my iPhone 4S (64gb model) from a fully-functioning iOS 8.1.4 to the now useless iOS 9.0.2, and almost 80% of all my apps are no longer on my iPhone, and they refuse to restore from my Backup, made just an hour or two earlier on!

I fully expect to receive a deluge of responses from clever-clogs Apple Forum members stating that the updates are all flawless, and that the problem lies with me, my iPhone, my iTunes Backup, and/or my PC, but this is a recurring event! Every single blinking time we need to upgrade our iPhones, Apple always has to make it an absolute nightmare!

The fault is most definitely NOT with me, but with Apple's latest excuse of an upgrade! 😠

If anyone cares to explain in simple terms what I need to do, to get this fixed, it would be much appreciated, because right now, I've had it with Apple iOS updates! 😠

Well, I've just wasted another 48 minutes of my life, on the phone to Apple Support, and it seems that my Complete Backup that I undertook at around 3:19pm today, is worthless, and nothing has been backed-up at all, even though it's there on my laptop, and showing attached to my AppleID! 😠 😠

So now, I've got to waste another few, soul-destroying hours manually re-adding all my apps back onto my iPhone (in a random order of course, and not in the order, or on the right screens I originally had them in), then rearrange them all over again, and then I'll need to go on and add-on all of my music (21 days worth), and videos (about 50), and podcasts (another dozen or so), and photos (over 200) and other stuff too. 😠 😠 😠

Another wonderful iOS update, that's gone completely pear-shaped, as per always due to Apple's inabilty to get the most basic of basic computer tech right!

NOT HAPPY AT ALL!

You are lucky, only 48 minutes. I spent 3 evening in a row trying to understand why my apps (207) not restored after restore was done.

Thanks for this thread I understood that not only my specific problem and I concentrated on solution.

My Solution:

I found all apps (*.ipa) in folder .... \iTunes 1\iTunes Media\Mobile Applications

Installed program - called CopyTrans App and brought them back.

I's so happy now.

This is absolutely ridiculous. I have 2 identical ipad mini retinas bought 1.5 years ago and it is IMPOSSIBLE to make a backup in itunes from one and then restore it to the other one. WHERE ARE ALL THE APPS?

I have been trying for days. I've programmed computers for 30+ years so am no newbie, this is totally insane. Backups just do not work anymore. I've read this thread and am trying the suggestions, but a backup is not a backup if it doesn't restore the apps, which is the main reason for making the backup. The install/will install seems to be all grayed out after doing the restore.

I first entered the apple eco-system in 2010 with iPhone4 for reliability to save me time not having to fix things, worked great. 3 iPads and a recent iPhone6s+ later (that already has problems) that reason has evaporated. One iPad mini keep crashing to the apple logo (hence the restore from other one), the earbuds < 1 month old on iPhone6s+ have stopped working. What is going on?

Hopefully Apple will make some changes to the way this works, but in the meantime you can download past purchases from iTunes and/or enable automatic downloads of app purchases to make sure that iTunes always has the apps that you want on your device. As long as you make sure all apps are present and updated in iTunes before attempting a restore there should be no loss of data.

I rang Apple but they couldn't help, I started comparing the iPads and noticed something weird. I eventually traced my problem back to the fact the backup was taken & restored from an iPad with restrictions->installing apps = Off (heavily restricted kids iPads) When restored this seems to prevent the apps from installing. No messages or help to indicate this and it's a backup so should restore identically regardless of the settings IMO.

It's just like all those lost days fighting with Microsoft through 90's & 00's all over again.
